Registrar Recommendation Changes

A public log of meaningful changes to our registrar recommendations, rankings, and policy-driven caution notes.

Our registrar recommendation pages are handwritten and updated when the underlying market, product quality, or policy environment changes. This page documents the significant recommendation changes and the reason behind each one.

This is part of our site-wide transparency changelog.

March 2026

Articles Unified and Harmonized

Our registrar recommendation articles were originally written by multiple people at different times, which led to inconsistencies in rankings, pricing references, and registrar coverage. In March 2026, we audited the registrar recommendation set and aligned the pages to a single hierarchy and current pricing window.

Pages affected: Best Registrars 2026, Cheapest Registrars, Best for Startups, Best for Domainers, Best for Enterprise, Best European Registrars, Best UI/UX Registrars, and both KB comparison articles.

GoDaddy Removed from Default Registration Recommendations

Change: GoDaddy has been removed from the default recommendation lists for general registrar selection and is marked with cautionary language in our registrar guides.

Reason: In February 2026, GoDaddy updated their Terms of Service to reclassify all 21 million customers as "Business Customers." That change materially affects consumer-rights analysis, especially for EU users.

GoDaddy still matters operationally because they run major expired-auction infrastructure and Afternic remains one of the largest aftermarket channels. The issue is with recommending GoDaddy as a primary registrar choice for general registrations, not with pretending their auction and marketplace footprint is irrelevant.

Spaceship Elevated to #1 Overall Recommendation

Change: Spaceship is now our top recommendation for most users across the general, startup, and UI/UX registrar guides.

Reason: Spaceship offers the strongest combination of modern UX, competitive pricing, and rapid product iteration. The main caveat remains its weaker fit for bulk transfer-out workflows, which matters more to domain investors.

Vercel Domains Added

Change: Vercel Domains was added as a recommended option for teams already operating on the Vercel platform.

Reason: At-cost pricing and zero-config deployment integration make it a strong contextual pick for Vercel users, even though it is not the right fit as a general-purpose registrar for everyone.

Unstoppable Domains: $5.99 Friday Promo Discontinued

Change: References to Unstoppable Domains' $5.99 Friday promotion were removed from recommendation content.

Reason: The weekly promo ended, so that specific pricing hook was no longer accurate enough to leave in public recommendation pages.
